Se il lusso, la vastità degli spazi, l’oferta gastronomica
che spazia tra una decina di ristoranti, e le mille attenzioni
dell’onnipresente staf sono ciò che più colpisce in una prima
visita all’Imperial, è la storia il valore aggiunto di questo
hotel icona nel centro di Tokyo. Dell’originario stile vittoriano
dell’Imperial costruito nel 1890, così chiamato perché sulla
via che portava al Palazzo Imperiale ed unico in città per il
suo stile europeo, nulla è rimasto. Ma è il successivo edifcio,
realizzato da Frank Lloyd Wright nel 1923, sopravvissuto ad
un terremoto nello stesso giorno dell’apertura, e divenuto per
questo la base di ambasciate straniere e corrispondenti esteri,
ad aver fatto epoca. Rifatto nel 1970 in uno stile architettonico
diverso, conserva parti dell’edifcio di Frank Lloyd Wright
nell’afascinante Old Imperial Bar, una vera istituzione a Tokyo.
If luxury, the vastness of the spaces, the gastronomic ofering
(which includes about ten restaurants), and the abundant
attention of the omnipresent staf are elements which strikes one
most during the frst visit to the Imperial, the added value is the
history of this iconic hotel in the centre of Tokyo. Of the original
Victorian style of the Imperial, built in 1890 and so called because
it is located on the street which led to the Imperial Palace, nothing
remains. Moreover, the hotel is also unique due to its European
style. However, it is the successive edifce, realised by Frank Lloyd
Wright in 1923, which became renowned. The structure even
survived an earthquake on opening day thus becoming the base
for foreign embassies and overseas correspondents. Remodeled
in 1970, it preserves parts of Wright’s building in the fascinating
Old Imperial Bar, a veritable institution in Tokyo.
